Basic Setting

The timeline of Kadanzer Weyr begins shortly after the return of Thread in the Tenth Pass, four hundred Turns after it was thought gone forever.  For various reasons, Pernese society is much as it was at the beginning of the previous Pass of the Red Star, when the earlier books are set.  The only differences are that the Southern Continent has a large and stable population, and there are no Oldtimers. (Well, there are a few... but that’s another story!)

A large portion of the Southern Continent is protected from the newly returned Thread by Kadanzer Weyr.  The Weyr has faced many challenges; the most grave occurred only a few months after the return of Thread, when someone fatally poisoned most of the Weyr's inhabitants.  With much aid from other Weyrs, Kadanzer recovered, but its folk have not had it easy since then.  They have had to face scheming Lord Holders, a serial killer, deaths and departures of Weyrleaders and goldriders, an earthquake at a Lord's wedding that killed many important people, and an emergency relocation to the long-abandoned site of the old Southern Weyr as their long-dormant volcanic home reawakened.  Recently, Kadanzer Weyr received a surprise contingent of refugees from the Ninth Pass; a story too long to go into here, but sure to have consequences for Turns to come.  But no matter what the next challenge may be, Kadanzer Weyr will let nothing stop it from carrying out its duty to protect the lands and peoples of Pern.

As a club, Kadanzer Weyr has several years of history built up, and we have made the decision to protect its continuity.  All characters and stories are checked to ensure they do not contradict what has already been written, violate Anne McCaffrey's Rules (see next page), or ignore the logic of the setting.  Our protection of continuity sets us apart from many clubs where anything goes; but anyone looking for a world that makes sense, with rules justified by logic but still allowing plenty of room to maneuver, need look no further!
